Meet the Team

Emma

Director & Lead Midwife Sonographer, Obstetrics & Gynaecology
I’m Emma, founder of Little Peek Baby Ultrasound and Midwife Sonographer here at our Colchester based clinic.

My passion for midwifery and all things pregnancy related was ignited over 22 years ago following the most beautiful birth of my daughter Mia. I trained as a midwife in 2012 and later progressed into medical ultrasound in 2015 and have since proudly worked as a midwife sonographer in Colchester, Ipswich, and throughout the country.
Over the years I have gained ample experience in all areas of obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound, including fetal medicine, preterm birth, screening, bereavement and infertility. I have also been fortunate enough to not only witness the joy and wonder of pregnancy and birth, but to travel and share my knowledge far and wide. I most recently spent 7 months in the Outer Hebrides teaching midwives to scan across the remote Western Isles, giving me an unforgettable insight into midwifery and ultrasound within the highlands.

I pride myself in ensuring that my clinical practice is of the highest standard and delivered with nothing but kindness, empathy and compassion. I feel genuine excitement during each and every pregnancy scan that I perform and feel privileged to experience and share the miracle of life every day. I truly believe that ultrasound is one of the most phenomenal medical advancements with incredible capabilities that must be shared.

I am committed to improving health outcomes for all pregnancies through raising awareness and research and have previously headed up The Soaring Sonographers Team, in which two of my wonderful colleagues and I raised over £4,000 for The Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RCOG) by doing a skydive in an attempt to improve birth outcomes and reduce the stillbirth rate within the UK.

I am proud of the NHS and the care that the maternity services provide to the local community, but due to clinical need and time constraints they are unable to offer scans for reassurance and bonding, despite the huge benefits that these have for you and your family. I recognise that these scans are invaluable, and I am thrilled to be able to offer you an insight into your baby’s unique world while in utero.

I am committed to research, reflective evaluation, audit, and continued professional development to ensure that best practice continues to evolve and be achieved at Little Peek Baby Ultrasound. I am an active member of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG) and have current accreditation from The Fetal Medicine Foundation for nuchal translucency, so you can be assured that you are in safe hands.

I have one of the best jobs in the world and I cannot wait to enrich your pregnancy journey with the magic of ultrasound one scan at a time!

I invite you to come and have a little peek of your baby and I look forward to welcoming you soon.

Shauna

Midwife, Tongue Tie Practitioner, Infant Feeding Specialist & Baby Massage Instructor
I’m Shauna, I'm an experienced Midwife providing predominantly labour care within the NHS. I am also a qualified baby massage instructor, tongue tie practitioner and infant feeding specialist.

Since having two babies of my own and experiencing the flip side of Midwifery as a mother, I developed a passion for providing infant feeding support. I love to provide the education, resources and reassurance to enable families to feel confident and content in their feeding journey.
I have been a tongue tie specialist since 2021 within the NHS. I find this role extremely rewarding, being able to observe the difference it can make to families experiencing difficulties with feeding as a result of a restricted frenulum (tongue tie). In the same appointment I am able to assess feeding and provide further support to improve any possible ongoing issues.

Feeding support with myself is available during the antenatal period (education to prepare you for immediate post birth feeding) and immediately post birth onwards to help you start your feeding journey with confidence. This can be on a one-to-one basis either in the comfort of your own home or within the clinic.

Teri

Midwife, Author, Lecturer, Birth Educator
I’m Teri, I’ve been a midwife for 23 years, supporting hundreds of families through their birth journeys.

My own journey into midwifery began many years ago when I was an NCT antenatal teacher. I became very aware that there are so many choices and decisions to make as we move from pregnancy into birth and parenthood, and sometimes the right information is hard to find.

Over the years I have led antenatal education in the NHS, teaching classes and training other midwives to be antenatal teachers. In 2012 I introduced hypnobirth into an NHS hospital. It was so popular that I went on to write two books and publish articles on the benefits of this type of preparation. I now train midwifes and obstetricians to be hypnobirth practitioners across the UK.

I strongly believe that growing and birthing a baby is quite incredible, and yet there is little real preparation for what will be the biggest day of your life. I am passionate about women and birthing people’s rights and choices, so feel strongly that great evidence-based information while you are pregnant is essential.

As a senior clinical lead in the NHS, I work towards making information as accessible as possible, and that includes creating a website and working with community groups to ensure their voices are heard. I have created a series of films for parents focusing on antenatal preparation, and a series of films for staff focusing on diversity within maternity services. These have been shared internationally into 12 countries.

I am a guest lecturer at the University of East Anglia and am often invited to speak at conferences about my work. I have recently contributed to The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists video series on tackling health inequalities and delivered talks for UNICEF and The Royal College of Midwives on health inequalities in maternity.

When I’m not talking about birth, learning about birth, sharing stories about birth and being an all-round birth geek, I like nothing more than guiding parents through the maze of information available. I know that knowledge is power, and I see myself as a birth activist. So, if you’re looking for evidenced based information, someone to guide you through your choices and somewhere to learn techniques and skills for birthing your baby – you’ve come to the right place. Welcome!
